Sacred Heart High School Band

Band 2008

Dear Parents,

Your child has expressed interest in joining the high school band here at Sacred Heart. Whether he/she is first joining or is a seasoned veteran, we welcome all students to join us every Wednesday night for an hour and a half rehearsal to have fun while preparing for concerts and workshops. Here are some facts you should know about our group:

we have previously sent our students to perform in England, Austria and the Czech Republic
a calendar of rehearsals is included for your convenience
students must hand in a postdated (June 30, 2009) cheque in the amount of $30.00 for sheet music (this cheque WILL NOT be cashed unless music has not been returned)
each band member will pay $5.00 for snacks for the entire band. This is new so we want to try it to see if it will work.
band will run for the full year with Cabaret as our first concert and the possibility of a year end small “trip” along with concerts at elementary schools and within the community
We have an opportunity to hear a marvelous ensemble in cooperation with the Victoria Jubilee Hall series on October 17 in the afternoon. This is a FREE concert of jazz and blues by Genius+Soul. Permission forms will be sent home soon.

A representative from Waterloo Music in Waterloo will be here on Thursday, September 25 to talk to students and parents about their rent-to-own program. Students can hear about it during class time in Period 5 or may attend the parent meeting at 7:00 that evening in the music room at the school. This would be worthwhile to consider if your child wants to continue his/her music career. It also guarantees that your child will have an instrument for band all of the years here at SHHS.

We have also been given a fund raising opportunity in selling potted mums this fall. I have a few at the school on display and for sale, but if you would like to place an order, please have your child come to see anyone of us with your request. They sell for $10.00 each and are 12" pots. The deadline to place an order is Thursday, September 25th. There are a variety of colours but some may not be readily available. We will try our best to get your requested colour. The proceeds go to the music department for instruments.

We are looking forward to another successful year of band at Sacred Heart. We thank you for your support and invite you to call if you have comments or concerns. Ideas and volunteers are always welcome. Drop in any Wednesday to enjoy the fruits of our labours!
