SDSS @ SHHS Game 8
Wednesday October 21, the Lady Crusader Basketball teams hosted Saugeen District. In the senior game, the Lady Crusaders won 53-18. Top scorer was Kelly Scheuemerman with 17 points and Katie Brown with 10 points. Nine of the ten players helped add to the score. Alanna Anstett, Katie Brown, Sammy Weber and Julie Chesney led to the defence forcing Saugeen to turn the ball over more then 25 times. The seniors are 7-1 in league.
In the junior game, the Lady Crusaders won 37-18. Justine King led the team with her outstanding defensive effort which shut down the Saugeen’s point guard in the second half. Top scorer was Taylor Summers with 12 points and Jocelyn King added 11 points. The juniors are 5 and 3 in league play.
Friday, the juniors are travelling to Orangville to play in the West Side Secondary Tournament.
WDSS @SHHS Game 7
On October 19, Sacred Heart hosted WDSS in their second match of the season. In the senior game, the lady Crusaders held the Raiders scoreless for the first quarter and went on to win 36-20. Top scorers were Katie Brown with 8 points and Carly Moore and Breann Glasier each chipped in 6 points. Alanna Ansett led the defence and worked to shut down WD’s inside game.
In the Junior game, Lady Crusaders won 34-14. Top scorer was Taylor Summers with 12 points while Katrina Young added 6. Justine King led the team in steals while Jocelyn King led the team in rebounds. The Juniors demonstrated poise and control during the game. The Lady Crusaders host Saugeen District on Wednesday.
JDSS Game 6
October 14, 2009 the Lady Crusader Basketball Teams met JDSS for an exciting double header of basketball. In the Senior game, after trailing the first quarter, the Seniors mounted as comeback to 41-34. Top scorers were Alanna Ansett with 15 points and Carly Moore with 11 points. Julie Chesney and Kelly Scheuerman led the defensive shut down for the Crusaders. The Seniors are 5 and 1 in league.
In the Junior game, once again the Crusaders had to comeback in the second half. Leading the charge was Katrina Young with the offense and Justine King, Taylor Summers and Lauren Maclean on defence. Pushing the game into overtime, by a last minute shot by JDSS, the Lady Crusaders went on to win 33-28. Top scorers were Katrina Young with 13 points and Taylor Summers with 11 points. Jocelyn King chipped in 5 key baskets in the last quarter. The Juniors are 3 and 3 in league.
Chesley Game 5
October 8, 2009 the Lady Crusader Basketball Team played Chesley at CDHS. The senior girls won 35-11. Top scorers were Linda Black with 12 points and Breann Glaiser with 6 points. The seniors are 4 and 1 on the season.
In the Junior game, despite a good second quarter, the Lady Crusaders fell 19-17. Top scorers were Taylor Summers with 8 points and Lauren Maclean with 3 points. The Juniors are 2 and 3 in league play.
Elmira Tournament, October 2/3, 2009
October 2 and 3, 2009, Lady Crusader basketball teams participated in the Elmira District Secondary School Invitational. In senior play, the lady Crusaders lost 45-23 to the host team. Playing Preston next, Alanna Anstett and Breann Glasier put on t a display of 3 point shooting winning 40-30 to advance to the Consolation Finals. In the Consolation Finals Sacred Heart lost to St. Thomas of Guelph 50-40. Top scorers were Linda Black with 11 points and Julie Chesney with 8 points.
In junior action, Sacred Heart won their first game, 28-17 over Rockway. They lost next to Preston 42-13 and Elmira 48-30. The Junior Crusaders improved greatly in defence over the weekend.
Huntsville Invitational Tournament
September 25 and 26, 2009, the Senior Girls Basketball team travelled to Huntsville Invitational Tournament.
In their fist game, the Lady Crusaders beat Timmins in a thrilling game, 34-33. Bridget King started the come back, while Linda Black led scorers with 12 points. Sacred Heart met Park Street from Orillia next. Alanna Anstett chipped in 10 points, but Sacred Heart was defeated 38-21. In the Crusaders final game, Sacred Heart played Patrick Fogarty of Orillia. Despite strong defensive play by Carly Moor, Kelly Sheuerman and Katie Brown, Sacred lost 26-19. Special thanks to Taylor Summers, Pam Howe and Jocelyn King who played up for this tournament. The Seniors are 2-2 on the season and travelled to Walkerton District Secondary School on Monday September 28, 2009.
Sr. & Jr. League Game #3
On Wednesday September 30, 2009 the Lady Crusaders basketball teams played Saugeen District in Port Elgin. In Senior play, Sacred Heart defeated SDSS 44-34. Top scorer was Alanna Anstett with 21, 5 of them 3 pointers. Breann Glasier led the team with rebounds.
In the Junior game, despite a third quarter charge, the Crusaders lost 21-19. Top scorer Taylor Summers led the late comeback with 11 points.
This weekend, October 2 and 3, 2009 both teams travel to Elmira for their Invitational Tournament.
Sr. & Jr League Game vs WDSS Game #2
Monday September 28th the Lady Crusaders played WDSS in basketball. Demonstrating exemplary sportsmanship and control, the Senior Lady Crusaders beat WDSS 32 -17. Top scorers were Alanna Anstett with 10 points and Kelly Scheuerman with 7 points. The senior team is commended for their efforts and level headed play.
In junior action Sacred Heart once again dominated WDSS and thumped them 36 - 15. Top scorers for the team were Taylor Summers with 20 points and Jocelyn King with 8 points. The junior team demonstrated much improvement from last weeks game.
Sr. & Jr League Game vs JDSS Game #1
The Lady Crusaders opened their season by hosting JDSS. The Senior Basketball team beat JDSS 37-23. Top scorer Linda Black led the second half charge with 20 points. Other scorers were Carly Moore with 7 points and Alanna Anstett with 5pts.
In the Junior Game, despite a second half push, the junior girls fell to JDSS 29-28. Top scorer for Sacred Heart was Taylor Summers with 13 points while Katrina Young and Jocelyn Kingg chipped in 4 apiece.
