Plagiarism

POLICY on PLAGIARISM and CHEATING

The intent of this policy is to clearly state the expectations of students with respect to research and completion of work for the purpose of evaluation

Plagiarism is defined as one or a combination of the following;

- copying of assignments,

- copying of graphs, tables, graphics,

- copying the work of peers,

- copying published work, (texts, periodicals, pamphlets, recordings)

- copying Internet web sites,

- copying homework,

- misrepresenting the ides of others as your own.

Cheating is defined as one or a combination of the following;

- giving your own work to others,

- using the work of others,

- copying the work of others on tests or exams.

- the use of unauthorized study aids during tests or exams.

Consultation

If a student is unsure of what constitutes plagiarism it is incumbent

upon the student to consult with teachers. Each teacher will review

the Plagiarism / Cheating policy with the students during the first

week of the Fall and Winter Semester.

Consequences

Depending on the severity of the incident consequences could include;

repeat of the assignment, mark reduction, mark of zero, suspension

and / or loss of commendation.

Appeal

Students have the right to follow the appeal process.

Step 1

The teacher will consult with the student about the incident,,

Step 2

The Principal will meet with the Area Chair, teacher and student,

and if necessary the parents, to review the evidence and make a

recommendation on the consequences.

Step 3

The decision of the Principal is final.
