Heart High School Policies
1. All parents and students are asked to review the dress code, rules, policies, Board Code of Conduct and procedures for Sacred Heart as outlined in the student planner. As well, a calendar of events is included. Particular notice should be taken of the dates for report card distribution and parent-teacher interviews.
2. Sacred Heart High School is first and foremost a Catholic high school. It is a requirement of all students that they attend ALL school and class Masses and Liturgies. As well, it is compulsory for all students to successfully complete a Religious Studies course each year of attendance at Sacred Heart. Failure to comply with the above may result in the student withdrawing from Sacred Heart.
3. The library is a place for study and research. Any student not conforming to the library regulations may have their library privileges revoked.
4. All grade 9, 10 and 11 students are required to have a full course load of 4 subjects per semester. Grade 12 students with a study period are expected to use this time to their academic advantage and not interfere in any way with classes in progress. During class hours, students not in class are to be in the library or cafeteria.
5. Attendance in classes is mandatory for all students with the exception of parentally approved absences and illnesses. As per the attendance policy, and with the implementation of the “School Connects” voice messaging system, students reported absent will have a phone call made home in the evening of the absence. Parents who have called the school before 9:15 a.m. to report an absence should not receive this call. Notes must be brought in to explain these absences before being admitted to class.
6. We at Sacred Heart encourage and teach healthy lifestyle choices. Smoking does not complement this message. Students who do smoke are not allowed under any circumstances to do this on school property. As per the Tobacco Control Act, a first violation will be subject to a documented warning and accompanying letter home. A second infraction will result in the school notifying the Tobacco Control Act Officer of the infraction. The Tobacco Control Act Officer will issue a fine. Students who do choose to smoke are to do this at the area north of the gym entrance doors. As part of a good neighbour policy and in the interest of student safety, students are not to smoke on South Street or trespass on neighbourhood properties.
7. Students may bring vehicles to school if necessary. Parking for students is restricted to the north parking lot. Vehicles in violation of this will be ticketed and/or towed. Parking is to be in marked areas only.
