Sacred Heart High School Cross Country Running Team

Team members also represented Sacred Heart at the CWOSSA Championship Cross Country Meet. The Bluewater Athletic Association hosted this meet at Buck’s Crossing Golf Course on October 29. Over 1400 runners competed at the CWOSSA meet in order to qualify for the OFSAA Championships (Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations). Highlights of this meet include Hayley Fischer finishing 13th out of 172
runners in the Midget girls race and Ryan Bross running to a 12th place finish in a field of 201 Junior boys. Although no Sacred Heart athlete qualified for the OFSAA Championship all athletes are congratulated for their participation and excellent team spirit. Mrs. Mount and Mr. Hambrock are very proud of all team members. Thanks for an awesome season!

The SHHS cross country running team competed at the BAA Championships (Bluewater Athletic Association) on Friday, October 23. Despite the rainy and cold weather conditions, the runners demonstrated focus and determination throughout the competition. Five of the twelve team members finished in the top ten. Awards were received by runners achieving top six placings.
Hayley Fischer was 3rd in the Midget girls’ 3 km. race, Melina Buhring finished 6th in the Junior Girls’ 4 km. race and Heather Cummings was 9th in the Senior girls’ 5 km. competition. In the boys’ division, Brendan Alexander was 8th in the Midget 5 km. run
and Ryan Bross was 3rd in the Junior 6 km. race.

Cross Country, October 2/09

The SHHS cross country running team attended the OSCVI Invitational Meet on Friday, October 2 at the Sawmill Ski Trails, in Hepworth. Sixteen team members attended the meet braving the wet and slippery slopes . All runners displayed great spirit and intensity in their races. Six of the runners achieved finishes in the top ten and three runners were recognized with t-shirts for placing in the top six of their respective divisions. Hayley Fischer placed 3rd and Jaclyn Spitzig placed 6th in the midget girls’ division. Ryan Bross raced to a 4th place finish in the junior boys’ division. The team will continue to train in anticipation of the BAA Championship Meet to be held at Hepworth on October 23.

Cross Country 2007

The cross country running team had a fun and exciting season of competition this year. Members of this year's team were Diane Zettel, Ben Carroll, Ryan Small, Adam Thomas, Brent Wilhelm, Kyle Bross and Matt Osborne. The team began practices in early September and attended a number of meets throughout October. Highlights of the season included top 10 finishes for five of our runners at the BAA Championships. Ben Carroll is congratulated for his capture of the midget boys' BAA Championship.

The season ended October 25, at the CWOSSA Championships, Bechtel Park, Waterloo. All team members ran exceptional races at CWOSSA. There are over 65 schools competing at the CWOSSA level and approximately 150 runners in each event. Once again, Ben Carroll was the first Bluewater runner over the finish line in the midget boys race, finishing 17th overall.

We are very proud of our runners. All team members are congratulated for their team spirit, dedication, and effort throughout the season.

Congratulations to all members of our cross country running team.

At BAA, Ben Carroll ran to a 1st place finish to capture the Midget Boys Championship and five of our runners finished in the top 10 of their race. The top 10 finishers included Ben, Kyle Bross, Brent Wilhelm, Adam Thomas and Diane Zettel.

CWOSSA is in Kitchener on Thursday, October 25th.
